Annual return of lunatics: Guisborough Union 1844

Description Annual return of lunatics in the Guisborough Union, giving names, ages, parish to which chargeable, where maintained, weekly cost of maintenance, whether lunatic or idiot, dangerous to himself or others, of dirty habits, and how long they have been of unsound mind. Includes:

- Thomas Bottomley aged 20 years, chargeable to Tocketts, and living with his parents at Skelton in Cleveland. His weekly cost of maintenance is 3s; he is an idiot, harmless, of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth

- William Bottomley aged 16 years, chargeable to Tocketts, and living with his parents at Skelton in Cleveland. His weekly cost of maintenance is 3s; he is an idiot, harmless, of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth

- Jane Haswell aged 15 years, chargeable to Hutton Lowcross, and maintained in the Union workhouse. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 2s 6d; she is an idiot, harmless, of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth

- Lazarus Jackson aged 30 years, chargeable to Loftus, and living with his parents at Staithes in Cleveland. His weekly cost of maintenance is 3s 6d; he is an idiot, harmless, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth

- William Tinley aged about 71 years, chargeable to Ormesby, and maintained in the Union workhouse. His weekly cost of maintenance is 2s 6d; he is a lunatic, harmless, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for a great number of years, time unknown

- Jane Ward aged 59 years, chargeable to Eston, and maintained in the West Auckland Lunatic Asylum since 10 October 1834. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 6s; she is a lunatic, dangerous to others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for about ten years

- James Westwick aged about 66 years, chargeable to Upleatham, and maintained in the Gate Helmsley Asylum since 1835. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s; he is a lunatic, occasionally dangerous to others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for about 22 years. He was in the York Lunatic Asylum for ten years before he was moved to Gate Helmsley Date 15 Aug 1844
