Step 5. Find Marriage Records

You've completed your family Pedigree Chart and Group Sheet. You've hunted for ancestor death and burial records. You're ready to tackle marriage records

Marriage Records often contain the following genealogical information:
  • Names of parents of the bride and groom
Ancestor Marriage Record Finder gives all places you can look for a marriage record for an ancestor
  • Ages of bride and groom
  • Place and exact date of marriage
  • Occupation of groom and sometimes of fathers of bride and groom
Olive Tree Genealogy Tip: Remember that marriage certificates often have incorrect information. Did the bride lie about her age? Be cautious, keep an open mind and carefully note all discrepancies
  • Notation as to whether bride or groom was previously married
Olive Tree Genealogy Suggests Keep track of all siblings of your ancestor. This will help you later when you reach that brick wall and don't know where to turn next. Remember, one sibling might have full information of his parents on a marriage certificate, while your ancestor's was left blank
