Step 8: Join a Mailing List

A Mailing List is a group of researchers with similiar interests. You can post queries, ask questions, and share information with other subscribers. Mailing lists might be based on the following interests:
  • Surname mailing list (for example, a Humphries mailing list for all people researching the name Humphries)
  • Join Rootsweb Surname mailing lists to find ancestors
  • Location mailing list (for example, a Herkimer County New York mailing list for all people interested in searching Herkimer County New York)
  • SPAM: SPAM is junk e-mail sent indiscriminately across the internet. Your ISP should be able to help you set up a SPAM filter. Other ways to protect yourself from SPAM.
  • Topic mailing list (for example, a Census mailing list for all people wanting to find their ancestor in census records)
