Ontario Assessment Records
The 1823 Trafalgar Township Assessment, Halton Co. Gore DistrictThese records were given to the Archives in October, 1948, by the clerk of the township, Mr. Wilfrid Lord, through the kindness and interest of Mrs. Hazel C. Mathews, Oakville.Transcription from the Oakville Public Library Microfilm by Fred Blair for the Trafalgar Historical Society, October 15, 2012. The original assessment was a chart with twenty-nine columns, of which only the first nine and two others have been summarized and transcribed here. The transcriber’s comments appear in square brackets. Some portions of the microfilmed documents were too dark to read due to the photo process and multiple images did not always provide clear images of these portions. Rescanning the documents would probably reveal more details. The columns were: Name [with a pair of numbers after each name, eg. 5/6 or 4/-] No. of Lots North of the Street [Concession number north of Dundas St.] South of the Street [Concession number south of Dundas St.] New Survey [Concession number] East Half West Half Cultivated Uncultivated Hewn or Squared 1 Story Additional fire places Squared 2 Story Additional fire places Framed Under 2 Story Additional fire places Wrought by water 1 pair Additional pair stones Sawmills Merchant Shops Stone Horses Horses 3 years old & upward Oxen 4 years old & upward Milch Cows Horn Cattle from 2 to 4 Rate per Pound Pounds Shillings Pence [an empty column] If you see a name of interest in the list below, you may download the 1823 Trafalgar Township Assessment pdf file for full details.
