Immigration to Ontario Canada
Immigration Records
Peter Robinson Settlers
The Peter Robinson fonds contains detailed information
about the Irish settlers brought to the Peterborough area of Ontario in
the early 1820s (MG 24 B74, microfilm reels M-140 and M-141). Use AVITUS
to access some indexes. See online
passenger lists carrying Peter Robinson Settlers

Hawke Papers
The Archives of Ontario has filmed the records of A.B. Hawke,
the Chief Emigrant Agent for Upper Canada (Canada West). The
Hawke Papers, formerly the Toronto Emigration Office Records, 1831-1892,
includes the Kingston office. There is also a searchable database - the
index
to the assisted immigration registers created by the Toronto Emigrant
Office between 1865 and 1883. Over 29,000 entries have been transcribed
from the registers.
Olive Tree Passenger Lists
The Olive Tree has many passenger lists for ships arriving in various ports in Canada 1535 to 1957
Don't miss Ships Lists to Canada before 1865! Includes detailed lists of available passenger lists and links
More Help Needed?
The 1901 Census gives the year of arrival for immigrants.
The 1842 Census gives the number of years an individual has been "in the Province"
Land Records are helpful because immigrants often applied for land shortly after arrival.
Annual
City Directories can help narrow the time
line for immigration.
Death Records sometimes indicate how many years the deceased had resided in Canada.
Find Canadian Naturalization Records
The National Registration of 1940 gives the year of arrival.
You may wish to join CAN-SHIPSLISTS-PRE1865. A mailing list for the discussion
and sharing of information regarding ship passenger lists,
immigration records, naturalization records and ships' lists
substitutes for immigration to Canada before 1865. To
subscribe send "subscribe" to
