(By 2nd wife): Nicholas Evertson (Everson) b. 1699, NYC, NY, d. 1783, South Amboy, Middlesex Co, NJ, m. Susanna Roeters (my ancestors); John Evertson, b. 1701 NYC, NY, d. 1772, NYC, NY, m. Sophia Roeters (no children). Susanna and Sophia were daughters of Abraham Roeters of Amsterdam, Holland, The Netherlands, and his wife Sophia Van der Horst.
Notes: In his Bible, he spells his name Niclaes Evertson. However, other documents show him as Klass Evertse, Claes Evertsen, or Niclaes Evertsen. Family speculation has long said Nicholas was the son of Evert Evertsen who was the son of Admiral-Knight Johan Evertsen of Vlissingen, Zeeland, The Netherlands, but written evidence has yet to be found. The line of his father-in-law Abraham Roeters has been proven, and the Evertson's of American were still in touch with their Roeters relatives in Holland as late as 1820. When he became a naturalized citizen the English colonies in 1702, he did spell his name in the anglicanized version of Nicholas Evertson.

At the time of petition he was a seaman (possibly a ships carpenter) aboard a ?Dutch? ship. He was accepted into the colony as a carpenter. Abraham apparently died around 1650 and his widow remarried Pieter Casparszen (Pierre Caspard Mabille) of Naerden (a Huguenot) in 1651. The family moved to Schenectady (1676?) where Willem Abrahamse became a blacksmith. Willem was the first to use the TIETSOORT surname. He and a daughter were among the few to escape the massacre at Schenectady in 1690.

Notes: Surname has had many spellings , Van Nieuwkerk, Van Nieuwkirk, Newkerchen (German). Approx. 4th generation in America most used Newkirk. Cornelisse Van Nieuwkirk b. ca1600 mar. Bitje Gerrits in Holland approx.1630. Their children Gerret Cornelisse bp. 7/24/1631 and Mattheus Cornelisse bp. 12/4/1642 (both in Holland). It was written that Gerret & wife with suckling child and brother Mattheus came to America on the ship Moesman 4/25/1659. Gerret purchased 36 acre farm in Flatbush (LI) and later moved to Hurley, NY where he purcased an 85 acre farm. Mattheus settled in New Jersey. Questions? Did Gerrets 1st wife, Aaltie Gerrits come to America with him? Did Gerrets father Cornelisse come to America with him and later return to Holland?
