Son of Caspar Springsteen of Groeningen, Holland. Immigrated with mother Geesje Jans, brothers Joost and Johannes and a sister Barbara. Father died prior to 1652, not sure where. Mother remarried Sept., 8, 1652, one Jan Jansen also of Groeningen at the New Amsterdam Dutch Church.
In 1663 Melchior is listed as 19 years of age and a member of the Boswyck militia. Moved about 1670 to Brooklyn, N.Y., lived New York(City)about 1687/89, moved circa 1692 to Tappan, Orange County and sometime after about 1700 to Dutchess County New York where he shows up on the 1714 census.
