Notes: This family lived in Albany County, New
York possibly in the
Kinderhook area. Their records are apparently with the Dutch
Reform Church. I have been unable to search these records
myself. Ariaantje Gardenier married John Woodcock on the
19th of May 1702,in Kinderhook, Albany County, NY.
John Woodcock was born in New York State about 1675.
If anyone has information on this family I would appreciate
hearing from them.
--------------------------------------------------
Note From Lorine: The Jan Jacobse you are seeking is in Pearson's Genealogies of the First Settlers of Albany on pp 52-23. Jan was the s/o Jacob Jansz Gardenier aka Flodder who came to Beverwyck as early as 1638. Jacob was md. to Josyna unkown and then to Barentje Stratsmans. You need to be looking under Flodder as well as Gardenier for this family.

Notes: Joachim Ketelhuyn left Mechlenburg during
the Thirty Years War
and drifted to Amsterdam, Holland where he boarded the ship
"De Houttyn" for New Amsterdam on 6 Jun.1642. He landed at Fort
Orange (Albany) on 11 Aug.1642. Deborah Ketelhuyn, Maria Bratt
and Maria's son, Johannes were captured by French Indians
and taken to Quebec. Maria's husband, Barentse Bratt, David
and Johanna Ketelhuyn, and three of Deborah Ketelhuyn's children
were all killed during this massacre on 20 Oct. 1711, at their
homestead. Daniel Ketelhuyn went to Quebec and ransomed back his
wife, sister and nephew.
--------------------------------------------------
Note From Lorine: You will want to refer to the books written about the Bradt family for more information on your Ketelhuyns who married into the family. Johannea Barentse BRATT is in reality Johannes Barentse Bradt b ca 1668 d 20 Oct. 1711, s/o Barent Bradt & Susanna Dirckse Meyer. It was Johannes' children who took the spelling of Bratt or Brott, but not Johannes himself. Johanna BRATT is his sister, Johanna b ca 1680 and d. 20 Oct. 1711. The marriages to the Ketelhuyn siblings is in Descendants of Albert and Arent Andriessen Bradt by Cynthia Brott Biasca. Descendants are also followed.
Likewise, Hilletie Lansing Vanderzee was Storm Vanderzee's widow - Storm being the brother of Barent Bradt (He took the surname Vanderzee meaning "from the sea" while his siblings assumed the name Bradt). My own direct ancestor is Jan Albertse Bradt, the brother of Storm and Barent. Another book on the Bradt family is Bradt: A Norwegian Family in Colonial America by Peter R. Christoph. They are also found in the early court records of Rensellaerswyck.

Amsterdam (NY city) he then came to Beverwyck (Albany) in 1654. In 1662
he moved his family to Schenectady. Where the house he lived in was to
remain in the family for over 100 years. On Feb. 8, 1690 the French and
Indians atacked the Fort. Symon's 5 sons were taken prisoner and marched
up to Canada. It took two weeks to get there through the cold and snow.
His first born son Symon Jr. was returned to Schenectady in June of 1691
by an Indian that was known as the praying Indians. Symon Sr. and his
wife escaped all the horror because they were in Albany at a Baptism.
Symon was a farmer by trade. And so were most of his sons. Phillip's
son opened the 2nd grist mill in the area.
