Palatine German Pioneers - Johann Wilhelm Schneider or Snider
Johann Wilhelm Schneider
Johann Wilhelm Schneider was on the Hunter Lists as #682. Johann Wilhelm Schneider of Nider-Elsten, in the commune Hachenburg is how he was listed although the village of origin is Niederolfen. His first wife, Catharina sponsored Johann Schneider at Birnbach in 1688. Hans Willem Sneider, wife and 6 children were in the 6th party of Palatines in Holland in 1709.
Could he be the son of Johannis Schneyder who d. 21 Feb. 1678 at Raubach/Westerwald? This Johannes Wilhelm married Juliana Catharina Dick, daughter of Georg Dick of Almbersbach in 1680. Wilhelm and his wife named their first son Georg so this needs further checking. Anna Catharina, as Wilhelm's wife is given by Hank Jones in his book Palatine Families to New York 1710, could be the same person as Juliana Catharina daughter of Georg Dick.
It is known that he had a brother Jorg Schneider, who was a single servant from Hilleshausen as he sponsored the baptism of Anna Margaretha bpt 1687 in Birnbach.
Johan Willem and his wife are found as baptismal sponsors in 1721 - in the Lutheran Church of New York records as:
"March 1721. At the Camp of the Germans, born at the beginning of the month, Willhelm, child of Denis Schneider and wife Margareta. Witnesses: Johann Willhelm Schneider and Anna Catharina Schneiderin"
