The Amistad - 28 June 1839 from Havana to Cuba with 54 slaves. Full Text of the 1841 US Supreme Court Decision regarding the uprising by Africans aboard the schooner AMISTAD. In August of 1839, the Amistad was seized off Long Island, NY, by the U.S. brig Washington. The Spaniards were freed and the Africans were imprisoned in New Haven and Hartford Connecticut. All 54 names of slaves are given here
