Ship Nevada carrying Mormon immigrants from Liverpool to New York Sept. 16, 1880On Sept. 16, 1880 the Ship Nevada arrived in New York at Castle Garden. It carried a large group of Mormons bound for Utah. The New York Times announced the arrival in its Sept. 17, 1880 edition. I have provided a brief excerpt from that issue. Those descended from any of these immigrant Mormons will want to read the entire NY Times clippings for details.Sept. 17, 1880. A Ship Load of Mormons: Over 300 At Castle Garden: A Missionary Attacked. The Nevada arrived at Castle Garden yesterday with 338 Mormons (147 Scandinavians, 134 British, 40 Swiss and Germans) 17 American Elders were in charge: John Rider, Moroni Snow, George H. Taylor, Peter Reid, B.G. Young, Jonas halvorsen, A. P. Rose, Ole Sonme, Peter Neilsen, Carl C. Asmuson, george Watson, Edward Cliff, Anders Hansen, W. B. Parkinson, Frederick Meyer, John Krenki, R. L. Fishburn Among the passengers were many "gray-beards" and small children.
