SHIPS PASSENGER LISTS TO MARYLAND AFTER 1820

Maryland Ships Custom Search Engines To help you find your immigrant ancestor, I created search engines to search for passengers on ships to Maryland. These search dozens of Internet sites with FREE passenger lists, including ISTG (Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild). Search FREE WEBSITES or browse Olive Tree Genealogy ships and links to ships
Until January 1, 1820, the U.S. Federal Government did not require require captains or masters of vessels to present a passenger list to U.S. officials. Thus, as a general rule, NARA does not have passenger lists of vessels arriving before January 1, 1820. Customs Passenger Lists for Baltimore begin in 1820 but many are lost and/or missing. Some surviving lists from 1840- 1891 are in the Family History Centre Catalogue as FHL films 417383-432. Some missing passenger lists may be found by searching for Baltimore lists 1833-1866 which were copies of the original lists submitted by the ship master. Cargo manifests from 1820 to 1821 may also serve as passenger list substitutes.
