Timmerman Family Photo Album

Cabinet Card Timmerman Family Album Chicago Illinois - The Timmerman Family Photo Album was a gift from my good friend Illya of LiveRoots.com. As you can see, the Album has had a rough life, and needed a good home.

The Timmerman Family Photo Album has slots for 64 > and one tintype. 2 Cabinet Cards are missing, for a total of 63 ancestor family photos in this album. I estimate most of the cabinet cards in this album are from the period 1890 - 1910.

15 of the Cabinet Card photographs were identified with writing on the album pages. One was identified in period handwriting on the verso (back) of the photo. With the identification of those 15 photos and the clues from the photographers the family used, I was able to find the family in the census for Chicago Illinois and determine that this album belonged to the Timmerman Family.

Olive Tree Genealogy has scanned several of the photos and published them online for all descendants and interested researchers to enjoy. I will be scanning all the photos and placing them all online in hopes that genealogists will recognize an ancestor.

Before I remove photographs from an antique album, I photograph the album in its intact and original form. That way I can place the photos back or, if the album itself cannot be saved, I have a record of the original placement of the photos. This can be a good clue for identifying the subjects.

Genealogy Research Notes: The 1880 census for Chicago, Cook County Illinois shows the Timmerman family as:
  • Henry Timmermann, 30, born Germany, tailor.
  • Dorothea, 25 born Germany. [My research shows that Dorothea Timmerman died 17 July 1892 in Chicago, age 37]
  • Augusta, 6 born Illinois
  • Bertha, 4, born Illinois
  • Mathilda, 2, born Illinois
The 1900 census for Chicago, Cook County Illinois shows the Timmerman family as:
  • Henry, age 50 born Germany October 1849, immigrated to America in 1869, married in 1893
  • Theresa, age 36, born Germany November 1863, immigrated to American in 1867.
  • Emma, age 15, born June 1884 in Illinois (she is the daughter of Henry Timmerman's first wife Dorothea)
  • Arthur, age 5 born January 1895 in Illinois
  • George age 2 born June 1897 in Illinois
  • Paul age 4 months born January 1900 in Illinois
