Annual return of lunatics: Stockton Union

Description    Annual return of lunatics in the Stockton Union giving names, ages, parish to which each lunatic would belong by virtue of their settlement prior to 25 March 1862, where held and when sent there, weekly cost of maintenance, whether lunatic or idiot, dangerous to himself or others, of dirty habits or not, and how long they have been of unsound mind. Includes:

- James Windross aged 47 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 19 June 1861. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; he is a lunatic, dangerous to others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for ten years and seven months

- Richard Archer aged 38 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 9 November 1863. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; he is a lunatic, dangerous to others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for six years and three months

- William Barry aged 34 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 22 July 1864. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; he is of unsound mind, dangerous to himself and others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for four years and six months

- John Battersby aged 35 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 4 December 1866. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; he is of unsound mind, dangerous to himself and others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for two years and six months

- John Pearson aged 30 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 18 July 1867. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; he is of unsound mind, dangerous to others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for four years and six months

- Isaac Hutton aged 36 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 25 May 1867. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; he is of unsound mind, not dangerous to himself or others, of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for one year and nine months

- Thomas Muir aged 49 years, belonging to Yarm parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 3 October 1868. His weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; he is of unsound mind, dangerous to others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for 10 years

- Mary Grafton aged 59 years, belonging to Thornaby parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 23 May 1863. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; she is of unsound mind, dangerous to herself, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for 13 years

- Isabella Fletcher aged 55 years, belonging to Thornaby parish, and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 20 October 1864. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; she is a lunatic, dangerous to others, not of dirty habits, and she has been of unsound mind for four years and nine months

- Emma Sophia Anderson aged 35 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 25 February 1867. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; she is a lunatic, dangerous to herself, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for two years and one month

- Martha Ann Hutchinson aged 28 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 31 December 1864. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; she is of unsound mind, dangerous to herself and others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for five years

- Harriett Chadfield aged 37 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 8 August 1867. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; she is of unsound mind, dangerous to herself and others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for one year and five months

- Elizabeth Laidler aged 60 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and sent to the North Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum on 28 April 1868. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 8s 9d; she is of unsound mind, dangerous to herself and others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for one year

- Phoebe Hogg aged 36 years, belonging to Thornaby parish and sent to the Durham County Lunatic Asylum on 12 May 1864. Her weekly cost of maintenance is 10s; she is a lunatic, not dangerous to herself or others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for four years and ten months

- Isabel Atkinson aged 64 years, belonging to Middlesbrough parish and living in the workhouse. She is of weak intellect, not dangerous to herself or others, not of dirty habits, and she has been of unsound mind from birth

- John Leighton aged 28 years, belonging to Thornaby parish and living in the workhouse. He is an idiot, not dangerous to himself or others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth

- Edward Mark Good aged 25 years, belonging to Thornaby parish and living in the workhouse. He is an idiot, not dangerous to himself or others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth

- James Harrison aged 57 years, belonging to Yarm parish and living in the workhouse. He is a lunatic, not dangerous to himself or others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind for 24 years

- Mary Mowbray aged 57 years, belonging to Yarm parish and living in the workhouse. She is of weak intellect, not dangerous to herself or others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth

- John Sowler aged 22 years, belonging to Stainton parish and living with his parents at Thornton near Stainton. His weekly cost of maintenance is 2s 6d; he is an idiot, not dangerous to himself or others, not of dirty habits, and has been of unsound mind from birth
